CIGAR SALES LONDON (AP) La Aurora is giving its Angel cigar a name.
The company says it hopes that naming the cigar after the Virgin Mary helps to highlight its Christian heritage.
The Angel is an American-style cigar with a long nose and a peppery flavor.
The name was suggested by an employee of La Aurora.
The cigar has been named “La Aurora Angel,” according to La Aurora’s Twitter account.
The brand says Angel is a blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos and is flavored with Dominican pepper and coffee.
“We hope to bring you more Angel flavors in the future,” the brand tweeted.
La Aurora said it is hoping to sell about 1 million Angel cigars in the U.K. over the next year.
Angel is La Aurora’ first American-made cigar.
Laauras founder, Evan Peters, said in a statement the Angel cigar was inspired by the Virgin of the Assumption, the Virgin who died at the age of 80.
The Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared in ancient writings.
“The Virgin of Assumption was an important Christian figure, and her life and the stories surrounding her, which were the foundation of our faith, were well documented,” Peters said in the statement.
“She is often credited with healing many who had suffered during her ministry, as well as being a catalyst in many of our daily lives, such as weddings and funerals.
Our Angel is designed to honor and honour our Lady, to honor her legacy and to celebrate her role as a pioneer in the evolution of cigar smoking and cigar smoking culture.”
The cigar is named for the Virgin by the Dominican cigar company La Aurora, which also owns La Aurora Nicaragua.
